Day 1 – 5th April – Marrakech

Marhaba! welcome to the captivating ochre city, Marrakech, the still very much alive, and modern antique-like city. Its one-thousand-year-old walls encapsulate a fusion of lively souks, craftsmen, red sandstone humble houses, Mosques, Museums, narrow winding alleyways, gardens and the vibrant famous Jemaa el fna square. Your adventure begins with a welcome meeting at 6 pm. This evening, celebrate the beginning of a new adventure over dinner with your group. Nowhere is Morocco’s cultural heritage more evident than in its food, and tonight, you’ll try classic dishes like tagine and couscous.

Day 2 – 6th April – Marrakech

After breakfast, meet your local guide and set off on a morning tour of the Old Medina, through the bustling souks. Explore courtyards filled with the scent of orange blossom, and the many salons and chambers that make up Bahia Palace. This mansion was built in 1866 for a former slave who rose to power within the government. Then, step inside the ruins of El Badi Palace, the once a luxurious palace from the 16th century. Influenced by the Alhambra Palace of Spain, it took them 15 years to build it, walk among the remains which make up high mud walls -formerly as fortress- , large courtyard, Pools, orange trees and you will sense the past grandeur of this place. Stop by the Koutoubia Mosque – its famous minaret is the prototype for others of its kind around the world, including La Giralda in Seville. The rest of the day is free to maybe shop in the bazaar. You could visit the tropical gardens of the French painter Jacques Majorelle.

Day 3 – 7th April – Ait Benhaddou

Leaving Marrakech today, set off on the fabled ‘Road of 1000 Kasbahs’ Ait Benhaddou. Sitting on a hilltop and almost unchanged since the 11th century, this is one of Morocco’s most iconic sites. If you think you recognise the place, you probably do, as the town has a long list of film and TV credits including Game of Thrones and Gladiator. Walk through the winding streets of the Old Town to the top of the hill for views across the surrounding plains. Visit to the Tawesna Teahouse – a community-run establishment that provides local women with an income to support themselves and their children. Using ingredients sourced from local cooperatives, the women prepare delicious teaand pastries while sharing their stories with those who pop in to visit. After heading to your nearby hotel for the night, maybe sit back on the rooftop terrace and watch the sun setting over the kasbah. You will have dinner today at your accommodation.

Day 4 – 8th April – Sahara Desert

Drive through changing scenery, from barren mountainsides to fertile valleys, on the journey to Merzouga this morning. Stop by Todra Gorge – a massive trench that rises over 250 m to form one of the most dramatic and spectacular natural sights in Morocco. Explore the towering limestone stacks on a short walk through the sheer cliffs. Then continue to your final destination, when you arrive, you’ll leave your gear at your overnight camp next to a simple hotel, then ride camels into the edge of the Sahara, enjoying a spectacular sunset along the way. The dunes are stunning, especially as the evening light plays across them and sets off the colours. Tonight, you’ll camp out in traditional style, with the chance to try some local cuisine while you sit around an open fire with lively music and dancing under the stars.

Day 5 – 9th April – Midelt

It’s worth getting up early to catch the sunrise this morning, before the drive to the small town of Midelt. Originally built as a base for mining, this market town sits between the Atlas and Anti-Atlas Mountains at an elevation of just over 1500 m. It’s a perfect spot to break up the journey to the desert and you’ll head out on an easy walk through the valley to one of the local villages. Your leader will choose a route based on the group and the weather that makes the most of the views of the Atlas Mountains. Wander through plantations of apple trees on the way back to your accommodation for a relaxing evening.

Day 6 – 10th April – Fes

Today, board your private minibus for the journey to Fes. The living museum of Fes has disputable origins, some believe its origins come from ancient Greece, others claim it comes from the Balkans. Nevertheless, the city is the best example of the medieval Arab world, and you’ll soon to find out more about its past. After checking into yourRiad in the late afternoon, join your group for one of the city’s signature dishes for dinner – the salty and sweet pastilla.

Day 7 – 11th April – Fes

Today, discover the city of Fes, the spiritual and cultural heart of Morocco. Join an expert local guide and head into the Old City, known locally as Fes el Bali. Walk along the twisting streets and alleyways, passing donkeys piled high with goods, and explore the specialty sections that divide the souk. Filled with historic khans, madrassas and dye pits and stalls loaded with fruits, herbs and soups, it’s not hard to imagine yourself back in the Middle Ages. Spend the day exploring the Old City, visiting Medersa el Attarine, the tanneries and the Fondouk Nejjarine – a beautifully restored 18th-century inn. Return to your hotel in the late afternoon for a free evening.

Day 8 – 12th April – Marrakech

Drive along the winding roads of the Atlas, bound for Marrakech – There’s no rush as the scenery through the High Atlas Mountain passes is magnificent, and there will be several photo stops along the way. After checking into your hotel, Join your local guide and head to the great square of Djemaa el-Fna – Curb that food craving you are having for Marrakech food on a tasting tour. Once you step your feet into the backstreet of the medina, a chaotic food scents will cue you in on your degustation voyage, just follow your foodie insider though! Get to taste a variety of local flavorful bites as you wander off in out of sight shops sampling olives, snack on nuts, local treats, spices, traditional breads. End the day with a local dinner in the square of Jemaa el-Fna with your fellow travelers.

Day 9 – 13th April- Essaouira

Today, hit the road for a journey to the South Atlantic coast towards the fishing town Essaouira. A beautiful laid-back seaside city, with white-washed medieval looking houses, snug tiny wood workshops, art galleries, mosques, souks and restaurants. With your local guide, step inside the medina, and get drawn by the salty beach air infused with acompelling woody scent, everything is packed and within a walking distance. Navigate through the sandstone walkways and pick up on a haywire of Gnawa music. Make your way to Skala, a 15th century citadel with a turret, Portuguese based architecture, built to protect the town from the crushing Atlantic waves. For lunch, do as locals do and head to the fishing port and bargain for variety of today`s catch. Once you succeed to get a good deal,follow your guide to a nearby restaurant to get it grilled, surey that will be the freshest local fish meal you will evertaste. The rest of the day is free to explore at your leisure.

Day 10 – 14th April – Marrakech

After breakfast, have a free morning further to discover before heading back to the Ochre city. As you arrive in Marrakech, Head to the charming “Jardins Majorelle “, a stunning garden spot intrigue curiosity toward uniquecolors and hundreds of exotic plants. Stroll softly in the garden, pass by various flora, sit by the pool, and appreciate the peaceful surrounding. Carry on visiting the Berber Museum inside and discover a huge exhibition of Berber artifacts.

Day 11 – 15th April – Departure from Morocco

Your trip ends today after breakfast and you’re free to leave at any time after check-out. If you’d like to extend your stay in Morocco, just speak to your Intrepid booking agent ahead of time to organise additional accommodation!
